1. Congratulations on being nominated as one of the Top Africa Business Heroes! Can you tell me more about the award and how PowWater's contribution to social impact played a significant role in achieving this recognition?

Thank you, the Africa Business Heroes nomination is indeed an honor and a testament to the dedication, passion, and hard work of the entire PowWater team. The award seeks to identify, support, recognize, and celebrate entrepreneurs and companies who are making significant impacts on their communities in Africa. PowWater's technology has improved access to clean, quality-tested water, contributing to improved public health by reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases, as we work to ensure the sustainability of the city's underground water sources. PowWater is a clean water delivery service in Nairobi.

This recognition inspires us to continue our mission and scale our impact. We are grateful for this acknowledgement and we look forward to the future with renewed determination.

2. PowWater is making a remarkable difference in the lives of people by providing clean water. What motivated you to address the issue of clean water in Nairobi?

My motivation stems from a combination of personal experiences, convictions, and a deep awareness of the pressing challenges faced by many cities in Africa. I have always been deeply committed to using technology to solve real-world problems and believe that water, a fundamental human right, is a core issue that, if resolved, will create a domino effect in solving many other social impact issues around the globe.

With Africa being the fastest growing continent, understanding and maintaining the health of the cities' water sources is and will continue to be a critical issue, and solving this is at the heart of PowWater's vision.

3. Technology plays a crucial role in PowWater's clean water delivery service. Can you explain how the app, available on Google Play Store and AppStore, has streamlined the process of ordering clean water for customers in Nairobi?

The PowWater app has been a game changer in clean water delivery. It offers a seamless user experience making it accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. An order is placed with just a few taps, accompanied by M-PESA's secure payment gateway, real-time tracking of the status of an order, live chat support, and notifications and alerts. It improves the experience of water delivery by offering convenience and transparency.

4. Clean water trucks are an essential part of PowWater's operations. Can you share how technology has improved the efficiency and reliability of the clean water truck fleet?

PowWater's tech ecosystem has empowered water delivery drivers through advanced route optimization, ensuring that our trucks take the shortest and fastest routes while delivering water which in turn results in fuel efficiency. We use telematics technology to monitor the health and maintenance needs of our trucks, and we use the data collected to further plan for and optimize delivery routes.

5. Data security and privacy are crucial in today's tech-driven world. How does PowWater ensure the safety of its customers' data while using the app?

We take the protection of our customers' data very seriously. We employ strong encryption protocols to safeguard data transmitted across our apps and servers that cover customer information, payment information, and other sensitive data. We've implemented robust authentication measures to ensure that only authorized users can access information and perform actions. We also conduct regular security audits to ensure any potential vulnerabilities are promptly addressed.

We perform scheduled data backups and most importantly, we have clear and transparent privacy policies that inform customers about how their data is collected, used, and stored. We are fully compliant with all relevant data protection regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation as well as local data protection laws in Kenya.

6. As a Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder, what role do you see technology playing in the future of clean water delivery services, not just in Nairobi but globally?

Technology will play a pivotal role in the future of clean water delivery services, both in Kenya and on a global scale in multiple ways; advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence will be used to predict water demand, making it more cost-effective and energy-efficient to deliver water, and this will hopefully extend access to clean water to even the most remote and underserved areas.

Internet of Things technology will be integrated into clean water infrastructure to create smart grids and distribution systems that will drive the efficiency and sustainability of underground water sources. When this is coupled with remote monitoring and sensor technology, we will be able to better track water quality, supply levels, and the health of water infrastructure.

7. PowWater's success as a clean water delivery service with integrated tech is commendable. What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to create innovative tech solutions for social impact?

To aspiring and budding entrepreneurs who want to make a positive impact, identify a genuine social problem, surround yourself with a strong and diverse team who share a passion for solving that problem, and iteratively improve your solution as you experiment. Find a community of like-minded entrepreneurs where you can share experiences and learnings. Most importantly, remember that your entrepreneurial journey is not about the destination, it's about the process. Embrace the challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth, and keep your vision and mission at the forefront of your efforts.

8. Finally, could you share any memorable stories or experiences from customers who have benefited from PowWater's tech-powered clean water delivery service?

One of the most heartwarming stories involves an ECD Center in Kibera that serves over 500 underserved children. When we delivered our first order to the school, I saw firsthand the role that clean water plays in the well-being, growth, and learning of children. Seeing the smiles on their faces, particularly the children, reminded me of PowWater's mission, to democratize access to clean water, and toughened my resolve to be a part of this revolution.

And that's it, folks! Stay watered!
